Overview

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12-digit number assigned to employees by the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) for the purpose of managing their Provident Fund (PF) account. The UAN remains constant throughout an individual's employment, even if they change jobs, and helps in seamless transfer of PF balance from one account to another.

What is the process of UAN Generation?

Employer registration:

The employer needs to register with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and obtain an Establishment (ESIC) number.

Employee details:

The employer needs to provide the necessary KYC (Know Your Customer) details of the employees to the EPFO.

UAN allocation

Based on the employee details provided by the employer, the EPFO will allocate a unique 12-digit UAN to each employee.

Employee activation:

The employee can activate their UAN by visiting the EPFO portal and providing the necessary KYC details.

Linking UAN with PF account:

The employee needs to link their UAN with their PF account to view the details and manage the account.
